Deeper Than Dollars: Leadership and Financial Wellness

Brit Ormondroyd is a registered client associate and team administrator for a private wealth management team in the Bay Area, California. Originally from Wisconsin, Brit moved to the Bay in 2013 with her husband, Jon, $2,000 in cash, a suitcase, and a rusty old Kia. What began as a search for a coffee shop job led her to Peet’s Coffee—and unexpectedly, to connection, purpose, and the start of a new career path.

Now with over seven years in private wealth management, Brit combines structure, heart, and lived experience to support others in navigating the often overwhelming world of money. Her passion lies in helping people - especially women—develop a healthier relationship with their finances, one that reflects self-worth, emotional well-being, and long-term confidence.

In this episode of Tearin’ Up My Heart, we’re joined by Dr. Angie Adkin for a vibrant conversation on the power of laughter and gratitude as daily wellness practices—and as essential tools for grounded leadership. We discuss the importance of making time for wellness in a world that often pulls us in every direction, and what it means to lead with optimism while making space for your full emotional experience. Dr. Adkin shares insights on how she reorients her mindset, evaluates her priorities, and contains emotional overwhelm without suppressing what’s real. This one’s equal parts playful and profound.
Dr. Angie Adkin graduated from the University of Florida (UF) with her Ph.D. in Animal Physiology.  She also earned her Master’s degree investigating nutrition, reproductive physiology and offspring behavior/cognition in horses. Her Ph.D. research focused on plant-based estrogens (phytoestrogens) in animal feeds and how they impact reproduction in a host of species to include domestic animals and the Southern whiteRhinoceros.
Angie spent her childhood in South Haven, Michigan, surrounded by acres of rolling farms nestled quietly near the shores of Lake Michigan. Growing up in a family of third generation fruit farmers, Angie readily developed a love for the outdoors, nature, and all creatures, great and small. Angie attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in environmental biology and zoology. Always up for adventure and international exposure, she spent time traveling South America and Africa before starting her career as a zookeeper at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois.
As a zookeeper, Angie spent seven years learning about, caring for, training, and managing many species of both exotic and domestic animals – from reptiles, to dairy cows, to zebras and camels. While at the zoo, Angie assisted with several research projects that focused on assessing the behavior and activity of sable antelope, Grevy’s zebra and Sichuan takin.
Encouraged by the ever-evolving zoo industry and its need for science-backed solutions, Angie was driven to enhance her knowledge of scientific research and ungulate physiology in order to make a positive impact on zoo animal welfare. This pursuit ultimately led Angie to earning her PhD from the University of Florida in Animal Science. Her graduate research has contributed directly to animal nutrition, reproduction and conservation efforts around the globe. Angie continues to work in higher education teaching animal ecology, behavior, physiology and management as a faculty member at the College of Central Florida in Ocala, Florida and moonlights as an adjunct faculty member at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. She is a recognized leader in the industry.
In addition to her work in academia, Angie is a mom of 3 wildly wonderful young boys and is a lover of all things music. She hosts “All Creatures Podcast” with millions of downloads globally. It is a passion project that keeps her humble, curious and striving to do more for animal conservation and welfare.

Greetings from Down Under! As I’ve been on my lovely Australian walkabout, I’ve been reflecting on the pressure I can feel as a wellness practitioner- personal trainer, Esogetic Colorpuncturist, yoga teacher, Pilates instructor to “do wellness right.” At times, I feel like there’s this unspoken idea that if we can just find the perfect routine or say yes to all the right things, we’ll finally feel balanced. We’ll finally “win” at our healing journeys. However, I believe real wellness, especially as a leader, isn’t about getting it all perfect. It’s about staying present, finding what actually works for you, and adapting as we evolve.

Join me as I break down 5 common wellness myths that I see come up all the time in leadership and coaching spaces. I also share my current, personal top 5 favorite wellness practices that help me stay grounded, especially when things feel messy or uncertain. This episode is a little different—no guest, just me sharing from the heart and hopefully offering you some space to breathe, reflect, and remember you’re not alone in this.

Guess who’s back?! It’s me, your host of Tearin’ Up My Heart, Jenna Heath! Your guest host, Narina Brothers is galavanting around Australia for the next couple of weeks so I thought I'd take the mic back and give her space to lean into her own wellness journey!
After listening to a few weeks of Narina’s episodes I’ve come to the conclusions that being a leader is tough, especially when you’re trying to manage everything and stay calm. I’ll be honest: I don’t exactly do wellness well. But I’m learning, and I want to learn with you.
Today, we’re trying something new! I call it Java Judgment: a segment where listeners submit their toughest, sassiest, hair-pulling leadership questions that have them completely stumped. We'll discuss them on the podcast and, hopefully, provide some helpful insights!
This week's questions are in relation to this season's theme: Lead Well, Live Well: Wellness Practices for Leaders.

Elise Boland is a multifaceted artist, intuitive mentor, and consciousness facilitator who thrives at the intersection of music, creativity, and transformation. Known on stage as Elysaé, she weaves storytelling into her music, crafting an indie-pop sound that blends vintage instrumentation with contemporary flair. Offstage, she channels her passion for energy work into helping individuals and businesses realign with their deeper purpose, creating space for growth, clarity, and self-expression.
As a musician, Elise has captivated audiences across Australia, performing at festivals like Pangaea and Full Moon Dance and sharing the stage with artists such as Thelma Plum and Holy Holy. Her debut EP, You Might As Well Shout, co-produced by Luke Carra and Ian Pritchett, was a powerful statement of self-reclamation, earning recognition in songwriting competitions and making waves on Australian radio. With a love for nostalgia-tinged sounds and a playful yet introspective approach to songwriting, she continues to evolve her artistry, blending heartfelt lyricism with danceable rhythms.
Beyond music, Elise’s work in energy facilitation and intuitive mentoring is grounded in the belief that the answers we seek already exist within us. Through modalities like Reiki, the Akashic Records, and sound healing, she helps others navigate transformation—whether on a personal level or within the energetic frameworks of businesses. Her approach is both practical and deeply attuned, bridging the gap between the seen and unseen to foster genuine alignment and empowerment.
At the core of everything Elise does—whether through song, energy work, or creative expression—is a commitment to authenticity and connection. She invites people to embrace both the playful and profound aspects of life, dance through uncertainty, and reclaim their voices in ways that feel true to them.

Unlocking your full potential as a leader isn’t just about strategy—it’s about tapping into creativity, presence, and flow. In this episode, we explore flow state leadership—how getting into a state of deep focus and creativity can enhance well-being, reduce stress, and improve leadership effectiveness. Instead of forcing productivity, we talk about how to cultivate mental states where flow happens naturally—for yourself and your team. Tune in for a captivating conversation about creativity and how to work with energy instead of against it.

As well as the link to the Human Design chart we referenced so you can explore your arrows and discover what kind of manifesting type you are! https://www.myhumandesign.com/
(Elise did follow up with the intel that the bottom right arrow is the “Perspective” or “Manifestation” arrow. She said if it points to the left, it means you’re specific, and if it points to the right, you are said to be non-specific.)
